I have the honour to infom Your Lordship
that I have had under consideration the question of the
granting of pensions to the relatives of officers of the Civil
Service who may be killed in the execution of their duty.
2.
I find there is no provision in the
Pension Minutes of this Colony similar to that contained in
Section 31 of the Ceylon Pension Minute and I submit, therefore
for your approval that the following minute be added to the Pension Minutes of this Colony:-
"It shall be lawful for the Governor-in-Council
"to aword to the widow of an officer who has been killed
*in the discharge of his duty after serving the Govern-
"-ment for not less than five years a pansien not
"exceeding ten-sixtieths of the deceased officer's salary
*or $100 a year, whichever sum is greater.
"In similar circumstances if the service of
"the deceased officer has been less than five years, it
"shall be lawful for the Governor-in-Council to award to
"the widow a gratuity not exceeding one year's salary of
"the deceased officer".
